stuff you actually asked me

I admit that I find it a little surreal that people send me questions through my site. Personally, if I wanted someone's opinion about something, I'd look to a more credible opinion than mine. Who knows, maybe 90% of these questions are planted by my mom.

But since you asked.....

Q: Has anyone recorded your songs?
A: Yes, including Aubree Bullock, Danielle Henzler, Barbara Lynn Doran, Shandell Tosoni, The Road Chicks, Matt Jones, Riggin Reins, James Barker, and Shane Martin.

Q: Where do your song ideas come from?
A: Everywhere! But mostly I write about relationships. That's a double-edged sword though because it leads people to think that every song I write about a relationship is about me. That's not necessarily the case. Here's a good rule of thumb though: if the guy in the song is a jack@ss, it's not about me. HA!

Q: Any advice for this aspiring songwriter?
A: I condensed your question down to your main point. If you want to write songs, join NSAI. Then email me when you have and I'll gladly share what little wisdom remains in my brain!

Q: What is that weird looking guitar you play?
A: You'll have to be more specific, as I can make any guitar look weird. (You must have seen me live, so thanks for coming to my show). Seriously though, you're probably referring to my Rainsong, which is all graphite. I have a new affiliation with RainSong and I now play their acoustics exclusively. Check em out at www.rainsong.com.

Q: What is your favorite song you've written?
A: That's a tough one. I have what I think is my BEST song, but it might not be my fave. So, I'll say this: whatever YOUR favourite is, that's mine too.

Q: What's your favorite song?
A: Wow, that one's even tougher. There are some songs I could listen to 20 times in a day and never get sick of (like today, when I listened to "Somebody Somewhere" by Dallas Smith 37 times - no joke), but it's so hard to pick just one. Put it this way...if I get hit by a bus tomorrow, please play the following songs at my funeral: "Take It To The Limit" and "I Can't Tell You Why" by the Eagles, "Feels Like Home" by Chantal Kreviazuk (Randy Newman is amazing), "Into The Mystic" by Van Morrison, and "The Load Out" by Jackson Browne. Load me out to "The Load Out".

Q: Who do you really like in country right now?
A: David Nail. His "Sound Of A Million Dreams" was my favorite album of 2011. He is the man. Also Eric Church. I could listen to his "Springsteen" all day long. I am also a perennial fan of anything by Miranda Lambert, Billy Currington, Joe Nichols, and Jake Owen.

Q: Who are your favorite female writers?
A: Kim Richey and Matraca Berg. No contest.

Q: Where do you record your songs?
A: Pretty much everything is done in Nashville at a variety of studios.

Q: Where do you live?
A: In a van down by the river.

Q: Who are your favorite writers?
A: Drew Womack, Jackson Browne, John Hiatt, Scooter Carusoe, and Trent Willmon. In addition, I am presently enamored with Don Henry's "All Kinds of Kinds" from Miranda Lambert's "Four The Record". I heard "Ilsa was an acrobat who went and fell in love with that Horatio the human cannonball" and almost crashed my rental car. One day I will write like that.

Q: Why don't you play out more?
A: I'm just really busy with being a parent and the stuff that pays the bills. But I am trying to play more shows, especially in larger cities like Toronto.

Q: I just wanted to say I really enjoy your music!
A: Thanks Mom!

Q: Why don't you record something?
A: I did! Check out my debut EP "*i spent all my money on the music"
